Overview

One of five mineral assets in Xstreco's Peruvian portfolio and the largest by area, reactivated under our staged development programme. Churubamba spans approximately 3,500 to 5,200 metres above sea level in the Eastern Cordillera of Huanuco department, northwest of the city of Huanuco and roughly 454 kilometres and around 14 hours by road from Lima. The property targets copper and molybdenum. Relations with the communities around the property are good, and the formal engagement programme is scheduled as part of the next phase of work.

How activities are assessed

Work programme

The geological setting of the property and the exploration programmes completed on it.

Geological setting

Churubamba sits at high altitude in the Eastern Cordillera of central Peru, on old metamorphic rocks and an overlying sequence of conglomerates, quartzites and shales intruded by granitic bodies. An altered zone crosses the property, showing the zoning characteristic of a porphyry system, with a leached cap over part of it. A regional fault trend runs through the ground, with a second, local set at a different orientation.

Work completed

Two campaigns have been carried out. A referential assay campaign in 2021 was followed by reconnaissance geological and geochemical work in 2022, taking point samples at exposures of visible mineralisation over the altered zone and its margins. Technical work to date is concentrated on the altered zone.

How we work with communities

Our assets sit in settings where farming, pasture and settlement long precede mining. Engagement is with people already living on the ground.

Engagement continues for the life of the activity and through its closure.
