Development projects
Our processing and refining facilities: the capacity we are building to convert our own ore into concentrate and finished metal.
Built as one integrated chain
The processing and refining capacity we are building to convert our own ore into concentrate and finished metal.
Our approach
Our approach to development projects is built around three principles.
Integrated from mine to metal
We are building capacity to concentrate ore close to source and refine it ourselves, so that quality, cost and chain of custody stay under our own management.
Permitted before construction
We complete environmental and construction permitting before a facility moves into build.
Advanced in stages
We clear feasibility, permitting, engineering, construction and commissioning in sequence, committing stage by stage.
Building the chain from ore to finished metal
We are building every stage of the chain inside our own business.
Ore will move from the mine to a concentration plant sited close to it, and copper concentrate on to our refinery. Because each step is held inside our own companies, quality, cost and chain of custody stay under our own management from pit to finished metal. No facility has entered construction.
In brief
Mining
Five assets across Peru
Concentration
Three plants planned, sited close to the mines they serve
Refining
One refinery planned, to produce copper cathode
Mining
Our copper assets are Antioquia, Cochabamba and Churubamba, and our precious metals assets are Tincopalca and Rumichaca. Ore from each asset is to be hauled to the concentration plant that serves it.
Processing and concentration
Our planned concentration plants at Huarochiri, Huanuco and Tincopalca are designed to upgrade ore into concentrate close to source. Siting each plant near the mine it serves keeps haul distances short and the chain of custody unbroken.
Refining
Our planned Huanuco refinery is designed to convert copper concentrate into cathode. This is the point at which we deliver a finished product rather than an intermediate one.
What integration is designed to control
From ore to cathode, each step is designed to sit with our own subsidiaries.
Quality
Consistent output from mine to market.
Efficiency
Streamlined logistics and processing.
Chain of custody
Material remains within our own companies from pit to finished metal.
How a facility is brought into operation
The stages each facility passes through, from planning to handover.
Planning and engineering
Internal assessment
Construction permit application
Construction
Commissioning
Each facility is at the construction permit application stage. None has entered construction.
Operating footprint
Where the planned processing and refining facilities sit in relation to the mines they serve.
Positions are indicative and shown at department level. They identify the region in which each asset or office is located and are not concession boundaries or site coordinates.
Current projects
Four processing and refining facilities, each at the construction permit application stage.
Concentration plant Huarochiri
We are planning a copper concentration plant in the Huarochiri province to serve our Antioquia mine. We have designed the facility to produce copper concentrate with gold and silver by-products, which then move to our own refinery rather than to third-party processors. Its position close to the mine keeps haul distances short and the chain of custody with us. Initial planning and engineering work has been carried out. The facility is at the construction permit application stage.

Concentration plant Huanuco
We are planning a copper concentration plant in the Huanuco region to serve our Churubamba mine. Concentrate produced here feeds our refinery in the same region, so material moves within a single district from pit to finished metal. Initial planning and engineering work has been carried out. The facility is at the construction permit application stage.

Concentration plant Tincopalca
We are planning a precious metals plant for our Tincopalca project in Huancavelica, combining concentration with single-stage dore production on one site. Processing gold and silver close to source shortens haul distances for high-value material and keeps the chain of custody with us. Initial planning and engineering work has been carried out. The facility is at the construction permit application stage.

Refinery Huanuco
We are planning a copper refinery in the Huanuco region, producing copper cathode from concentrate supplied by our own concentration plants. It is the final step in the chain from ore to finished metal, and the point at which we deliver a refined product rather than an intermediate one. Initial planning and engineering work has been carried out. The facility is at the construction permit application stage.

Part of our five-asset strategy
Our development projects sit alongside our mines and growth projects as part of one staged programme across the portfolio.
Where we operate
Efficient by design
Our own facilities carry material from concentration through to finished metal, keeping quality, cost and chain of custody under our management.
